  • December 2006 – August 2007, Interim Senior Regional Director (East Midlands and Eastern Region) for the National Strategies.
  • September- November 2006, Leading SCS Team within Service Birmingham on a review of service delivery within the Children, Young People and Families Directorate, prior to a city-wide transformation programme.
  • August – September 2006, Working on the Capita SCS DfES Children’s Centres bid.
  • May – August 2006, Change Adviser with Hull City Council Children and Young People’s Services. This role included reviewing and supporting specific services; including extended schools, the school improvement service, BSF, school finance, early years and children’s centres, behaviour and attendance and CYPP issues and providing advice on education matters to the DCS and relevant Cabinet Members.
  • January 2006, Appointed by the Secretary of State for Education and Skills as a Member of the School Teachers’ Review Body for England and Wales.
  • 2005 – 2006, Independent Management Consultant. Associate of Solace, Dysg and Tribal. Several assignments completed including mentoring senior staff in a SE England LA and acting as a Change Adviser with Hull City Council.
  • 2000 – 2005, Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council, Group Director, Education and Children’s Services; Responsibility for all functions relating to children’s social care, the full range of education functions and cultural services. Prioritised the interests of vulnerable children and the LEA’s community focused schools initiative as a means of raising attainment, promoting collaboration and securing better integrated services. A member of the Wales Assembly Government Task Force (Narrowing the Gap) and Chair of the Association of Directors of Education in Wales (ADEW). Recipient of several positive Estyn inspection reports including strategic management, ACE and SEN services. Education service highly commended in the LGC Awards for 2004.
  • 1995 – 2000, Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council, Director of Education and Leisure Services; First Director of Education following local government re-organisation. The role was expanded to include Leisure Services. Highest Estyn grade for LEA’s School Improvement Service.
  • 1984 – 1995, Welsh Joint Education Committee, Senior Assistant Secretary (Management) Supporting all LEAs in Wales in the development of policy across a range of education functions, topics included; Financing Schools and LEAs; SEN; Adult Youth and Community Education; a range of strategic policy issues.
